Audra Mcdonald stands out in her breadth of talent and versatility as an actor and singer. She was the recipient of record-breaking seven Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. Her name was also cited as a result of Time magazine among the 100 most influential people and was awarded an award called the National Medal of Arts - the top award for artistic achievement in America in recognition of artistic excellence and achievement - by President Barack Obama. Born into a musical family McDonald was raised living in Fresno California and received her classical training in New York's Juilliard School. In 2014 she made Broadway history and became the Tony Awards most decorated performer in the sixth Tony Award for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role that also served as the basis for her Olivier Award nominated 2017 debut in London's West End. As well as making history with the most performances that an actor has won in a competition she also became the first person to receive awards across all four categories. Other credits in the theater are The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999) Henry IV (2004) 110 in the Shade (2007) Twelfth Night (2009) which marked the release of her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut, the show Shuffle Along or The Making of the Musical Sensation in 1921 as well as All That Followed (2016) Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (2019) as well as Ohio State Murders (2023). She first appeared on the show in the role of U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in the year 2009 on CBS's legal comedy The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald returned to her role (now named Liz Reddick) as a season regular of The Good Fight on Paramount+ with 3 Critics Choice Award nominations for her performance. The actress is currently appearing as a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which is telecast on HBO.
